Metanephros
Introduction
During early 5th week of development, a third and final set of kidneys start to develop, the metanephros. The metanephros is the caudal most pair of kidneys and develops into the definitive adult kidney and starts functioning around 4 weeks later.

The metanephros arises from two sources:
a. The ureteric bud, which forms the collecting system
b. The metanephric blastema/ mesoderm, which forms the excretory system.
